Can I get any help with money for trips, books, etc?

The Government has set aside some money for schools, to allocate to young people who need financial support to stay on in further education or training. This is called the 16-19 Bursary Fund.

It could help students with any education-related costs that may arise during the school year, including essentials like a meal during the day or transport to school. Alternatively, students might need extra help to buy books, clothing or equipment for their course, or to pay for educational visits.

At SWCHS Sixth Form, all bursary students receive FSM (free school meals) and a termly allowance to cover ongoing educational costs. They are also able to access laptops for home or school use. They can claim additional funding to support one-off costs such as trips, books and materials.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for a bursary, students must be at least 16 years old and under 19 years old at the start of the academic year. They must also be taking part in full-time or part-time further education or training.

If you want to find out if you might qualify, please see Mrs Chapman in the 6th Form Office.
